This DV7 Square style laptop key replacement will work with ALL versions of the DV7. HP started using this version of the keyboard starting with model number DV7-4000 and all the way up to DV7-6xxx.

NOTE: There are 5 version of the Square style keyboard, and the easiest way to identify your version is compare the shape of the hinge clip HC12, HC38 and HC40 all have black hinge, HC12 has a wider metal tab at the bottom, HC38 has a shorter tab and HC40 has 2 metal tabs at the bottom, HC29 and HC41 both uses white hinge clips, 
but the shape of the hinges are noticeably different.

The hinge clip is the plastic scissor clip that swivels up and down underneath the keyboard key cap. It is usually either black or white and functions as the part that holds the back of he key to the keyboard.

Manufacturers often use different keyboard vendors during production and each vendor has its own unique type of hinge clip. Compare the chart and identify the version that matches. You will fill this info in Step 2 above.
